01 / THREE CHORDS, FOUR SLOTS

Can you play Duvet with hand gestures?

Yes: on Gesture Synth at gesture-synth.com, you can manually play a simplified bôa Duvet chord study, sing over it, and record a short performance in your browser. Load G major, B minor, E minor and another E minor into Sing & Play. The repeated E minor gives you a longer closing hold. This is our four-bar learning exercise, not a complete transcription of the original recording or a recreation of a creator’s arrangement.

The link selects Sing & Play, Four chords and a two-minute recording option. It does not start sound, request permissions or begin recording. Check that the banner says “Duvet — bôa,” then choose Use Mouse Mode for your first attempt. Start Camera is an alternative after you know the changes.

If you prefer manual setup, open the instrument, choose Sing & Play and keep Chord mode on Four chords. Configure each slot separately using the table. Use Root position and Octave 3 for all four. A root field belongs to its own slot; a separate scale or key setting is not a shortcut for changing this bank.

The basic G, Bm and Em chord set is identified in Marin Music Center’s Duvet guitar tutorial. That source supports these basic chords. The order, repeated fourth slot and practice timing here are our simplified study, rather than a claim about every section, original guitar voicing or the song’s exact key.

02 / HARMONY BEFORE SINGING

Learn the change you want to hear

Begin with just G and Bm. G contains G, B and D; Bm contains B, D and F♯. Two pitch classes remain familiar while the bass and remaining note change. Listen for that connection instead of treating the second button as a completely unrelated sound. The engine may spell F♯ as F#; those labels mean the same note here.

Next compare Bm with Em. B belongs to both chords, while the other notes change. Hold Em long enough to hear the different colour. Slots three and four deliberately have the same settings, so moving between them is a timing exercise rather than a new harmony. There is no need to hunt for a fourth distinct chord to fill the interface.

A first four-bar study

Count four even beats on G, four on Bm, then eight on Em across the final two bars. Try 80 BPM as a comfortable starting practice speed, or count more slowly. Eighty is our teaching tempo, not a statement about bôa’s recording. Sing a comfortable sustained vowel only after you can keep the chord changes steady.

In Mouse Mode, quickly click a chord button to keep it sounding; click that same button again to release it. Selecting the next chord replaces the current choice. A longer press behaves differently: hold for more than a quarter of a second and release to end the chord. Use one method consistently while learning your timing.

Move within the pad to adjust volume and tone. Movement does not turn a held G button into a Bm button, so watch the selected chord label. If your voice is difficult to hear later, reduce the synth level rather than making every chord brighter. Headphones make that comparison easier without sending the accompaniment back into the microphone.

Our own short Mouse Mode recording: G, Bm, Em, Em, held as a basic chord study. No vocals, original song audio, melody or backing track. Timing is approximate manual practice.

03 / SWITCH INPUT, KEEP THE BANK

Use your left hand for the four slots

When the buttons feel predictable, stop the instrument and choose Start Camera. Allow camera access when your browser asks. Keep both hands clearly visible in even light. In Four chords, raise one to four non-thumb fingers on your left hand, with the thumb folded, to select slots one to four. These are slot numbers, not scale degrees.

Your right-hand height controls volume and wrist tilt changes tone. Start with a steady, moderate height and a neutral wrist. To rest, close the left hand into a fist, remove a hand from view, or use Stop. Do not rely on a right-hand fist as the rest gesture in this four-slot mode. Watch the displayed chord before adding singing.

If changes flicker, give each shape a deliberate hold and keep fingers separated. Check that the thumb is folded and that neither wrist leaves the frame. Start with the first two slots, then add Em. Return to Mouse Mode to check the bank whenever tracking and chord selection become hard to distinguish.

What about Free chords?

Free chords is an optional, different control map. With its Key set to G, the same root names are available as degree I for G, degree III for Bm and degree VI for Em, with minor quality selected where needed. Its degree and quality gestures are separate from the slot numbers above. Keep Four chords for this first study; switching modes does not turn these instructions into a full song arrangement.

04 / YOUR VOICE, YOUR TAKE

Record a short Duvet sing-along

Choose a 15-second test before trying the longer option. To include your voice, select Add microphone, allow access and watch the microphone level while speaking. Microphone audio is mixed into the recording; it is not sent back through the speakers as live monitoring. A quiet microphone meter means you should solve input selection or permission first.

Sing & Play supports 15 or 120 seconds. Two minutes suits an excerpt or practice take and may not fit the complete song. There is no automatic accompaniment, lyric display or full-song playback. You supply the singing and chord changes. Record once without vocals to learn the recorder, then add your voice and compare the balance in the preview.

Playing, recording and local preview are free without an account. A single-recording video export costs US$9.99; optional packs show their price and recording count before payment. Google or email/password sign-in is required for paid export, with no subscription. An exported recording remains downloadable for 30 days from payment or pack unlock. Preview first and pay only if you want that result.

Keep the tab open while deciding: an unpaid preview is temporary. Compatible browsers produce MP4; others can use WebM. The recording guide explains saving and browser differences. This tutorial is independent of bôa and any social creator. Its demo uses our synthesizer alone, and contains no copied lyrics or commercial recording.

05 / BEFORE YOUR NEXT TAKE

Duvet gesture synth questions

Is this the exact synth sound from Duvet?

No. This is a basic synthesized chord study. The original lead sound, guitar articulations and any creator’s tone choices are separate from these triads. Adjust tone by ear without expecting an exact recording match.

Why is E minor loaded twice?

The fourth slot extends the final E minor in our simplified four-bar study. It is not evidence that the original song has only this form. You can hold slot three instead if that feels easier.

Do I need to read sheet music?

No. Follow the chord names, slot table and counted exercise. You still choose when each change happens; the page does not play the song automatically.

Can I practise without a webcam?

Yes. Load the bank and choose Use Mouse Mode. Click the chord buttons to play, then click the active button again to release. You can test harmony and recording without camera permission.

Can I record the entire original song?

The recorder has a 120-second maximum in Sing & Play. Plan a short excerpt rather than assuming the whole song will fit. It does not supply a licensed original backing track.

Is video download free?

Playing, recording and preview are free. Single-recording video export costs US$9.99, with optional packs priced before payment. Sign-in is required to purchase an export; there is no subscription.
